CM Punk Makes History

cm-punk-use-this1Reading this article just made me realize how quickly things can happen in the wrestling business.  In  just a little over 200 days, CM Punk has made history by becoming the fastest man to win the Triple Crown in the WWE.  Wow.  Unbelievable.

You’re looking at a guy who was basically wrestling dark matches for Memphis Wrestling about four years ago.  I remember meeting Punk in the locker room at the Southaven Arena.  He was wrestling Brent Albright in the opening match.  They did a fine job, but no one knew who they were.

Brent Albright went on to be Gunner Cannon (I think) and CM Punk… well, we all know what he’s gone on to become.

I also had the privilage of eating lunch with Punk when I was working my spots with the WWE a few years back.  He was very cool and down to earth then, as well.  He’s a very positive guy and from what I know – he’s really the straight edge superstar for a shoot.  There aren’t any stories that would leave me to believe that it’s just a gimmick.

Keep kickin’ ass, Punk.  And for all you independent guys out there (myself included), dobbers up.  It can only get better.

I’ll be back in a little while for the KAYFABE blog that I promised.

Elite Wrestling Entertainment

tlcw-1-17-1I’m not a big fan of changing the name of a company.  Whether it’s a wrestling company or not… it’s typically not a good idea.  Especially, if there’s not a good reason for it.  But TLCW is doing just that.  They’re changing the name of the wrestling company to Elite Wrestling Entertainment.  This may be the worst decision in a long time.

Please allow me to explain.

When we see a retail shop change it’s name from one thing to another, what do we always think?  We think that the one company went out of business, right?  I always do.  My first impressions is a negative one.  That company went out of business and re-opened under a different name to try and be successful at being something else.  So, I’m afraid that most fans will look at TLCW as a failure… and this is the one last effort to try and save the town – change the name.

The crowd is down as it is.  But now, you’re telling them that TLCW is dead and Elite Wrestling Entertainment is alive.  Those same people that think TLCW is dead, they’ll think that EWE is going to be much of the same and soon be dead as well.  I can’t blame them.  The show is getting worse week after week and I don’t know if they can turn it around or not.

I’m just being honest. (more…)
