TAKE IT!

FIVEEither you want it or you don’t. There’s no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. You either want to make it to the next level or you don’t. You either can or you can’t. There’s no two ways about it. Sometimes I get the feeling that guys THINK they want it… But their actions show that not only do they NOT want it – but there’s no way they can get it.

Making it requires a bit of luck. It’s not ALL luck. But there’s a good chance that you’ll need to be at the right place at the right time to make it to the big time. That’s in wrestling, rock ‘n roll – whatever you’re doing. Right place, right time is a big part of it. But you also have to put in the work and the dedication to get where you want to be.

I guess what really brings this topic up is watching UFC’s Ultimate Fighter, Wednesday night. I don’t even know the guy’s name… But he mopes around the house, has a bad attitude and refuses to put anything on the line to achieve his goal. Yeah, he’s sick. Yeah, he’s hurt. But when you get “the call”, you do whatever it takes to answer that call. You do whatever it takes to answer that challenge.

Watching UFC wasn’t the only instance that brings this topic up for me.  It seems like every weekend I encounter someone who really thinks they want it. Someone who says, “this is really what I want to do.”  But they don’t get in the gym.  They don’t workout in the ring.  They don’t make sacrifices.  Or better yet, get this – they DO sacrifice their families and their jobs… but don’t take the additional steps to work on their in-ring ability or their bodies.  How does that work?  You make the sacrifices but you don’t put in the other work?  TRAIN, guys.  And if you’re reading this – you know if I’m talking about you or not.  There’s not just one of you, there’s several.
Like The Undertaker said during a pre-show workout – get in there and get it, if you want it. Now’s the time. TAKE IT. Not onlyare all those guys not getting it and not taking it – they’re scared to get it.

Give me the shot. Someone give me the opportunity. That’s all I want. All I need. I will either TAKE IT or fail trying. But one thing’s for sure – I’d give it one hundred percent, one hundred percent of the time.

This week, I’ll take the time to talk about what I did to get better over the weekend.  I’ll talk about what opportunities I have coming up.  I’ll talk about the changes that I’ve made… the sacrifices I’ve made… not only to get better but to get to the next level.  Also, I would like to tell a story about the late, great Owen Hart.  It was ten years ago (just a few days ago) when Owen passed in the tragic accident at Kemper Arena.  I have a few thoughts on that.

See you tomorrow.  Have a great Memorial Day.

  1. I was watching the pay-per-view when Owen died. Lawler left his announce position and was the first one to the ring. Owen’s head hit the ring post. What an awful tragedy. Wrestlers and knowledgable fans know who works hard and who doesn’t. There is no acheivement without sacrifice.
