No joking here. I had a run-in with the Memphis Police Department today and almost ended up in the slammer. Did I commit a crime? Hmm… didn’t rob a bank, didn’t run a red light, didn’t hold up a gas station. What could I have possibly done to almost go to jail?
Here’s the story:
I’m driving down Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee this morning. It’s 10:45AM and I’m on my way back to East Memphis. I stop at a redlight, play with the Garmin… when all of a sudden, WHAM! I’m smacked in the rear by a Nissan Murano! I’m at a stand-still and get hit in the back! For the record, a Murano is basically an SUV. Not a big one, but much bigger than my G6. I can’t believe it. I’ve been hit while standing still, AGAIN. I have the worst luck.
So, now I have to exit the car, act nice to the person who hit me and wait on the police to arrive. It’s humid outside and looks like it’s going to rain. I guess the only positive thing about the whole ordeal was that the girl whom hit me was not only nice, but she was a pretty girl, too. So, at least she didn’t try to pass the heat to me – she knew it was her fault.
We’re located about two miles from the nearest police department… but it still takes mumra (forever!) for the officer to arrive. Fast-forward ahead – they arrive and we finally exit the street and go to a nearby parking lot. Maybe I can finally get everything taken care of and go about my day. Think again! (more…)
