Sting: Moment of Truth Part I

Sting screenshotI don’t think I’ve ever officially blogged about this experience before.  So, now is as good a time as any.  Especially, considering teh fact that my fanbase has grown so much over the years – and this site is receiving more hits than EVER.  I thank you all for reading.  Whether you’ve heard about this part of my career or not, I certainly would like to share it.

Back several years ago (maybe four or five years), I received a call from Bert Prentice about appearing in a movie.  Bert has booked wrestling shows all over the Mid-South, as well as booked talent for music videos for years and years.  He was a well-known wrestling manager in the area for many years, as well.  So, when he called, I was thrilled.

I quickly accepted the offer and had to shoot the following day with Ken Wayne.  Everything was looking great except for knowing thta I’d have to hear a million stories on the way to Nashville with Ken Wayne (Sorry, Ken!)  My mind raced on what part I would play, throughout the entire trip!  What part would I play?  Surely, I would wrestle.  But how much?  Would I have a great role as a former NWA or WCW wrestler?  Would I wear a costume?

I didn’t know and it was KILLING me!!

Finally, we arrived at Bert’s wrestling studio and saw a plethora of equipment.  Wow, this is the real deal.  I’m really about to be in a movie!  We were greeted upon entry by several people before the director finally found us.  He wanted us to get in our wrestling gear and head over to the make-up area.  I didn’t have a problem with sitting in the make-up cahir like a big movie star… but I wasn’t sure if they had enough make-up for Ken’s ugly mug.

Quick Blogger’s Note: Ken actually fit into his role much better than I did.  He had the mullet, old knee-pad tights and the physique of an old timer.  He fit in perfectly with what they were looking for.  My bleach blonde hair and belly piercing didn’t fit in quite as well.

As we entered the dressing room, the first thing I noticed was Sting’s wardrobe.  Neon green wrestling boots, colorful one of a kind Stinger tights and the most famous robes you’d ever seen (besides Ric Flair’s) were all hanging in the dressing room area.  I was especially happy to see the jacket Sting wore in his return match against Flair at The Great American Bash.  Red, white and blue Sting was awesome.  And if you don’t know what I’m talking about – GOOGLE IT!  I was in awe.  I’m a huge Sting mark.

Going thru my bag to find something to wear was a major problem.  I didn’t realize it until then, but all my gear was “new school”.  I was there to play an “old school wrestler” role.  My attire consisted of vinyl tights, lifeguard gimmick, shorts with see-thru buttcheeks… you know, the norm for the “new school”.  I had NOTHING I could wear in this movie shoot!  Sting even came in and told me so!

So, what was the solution, you ask?  Sting asked if I could wear a pair of Ken’s old school, black wrestling trunks.  Rrrooo!  No way I was fitting into those big boys!  But guess what?  They’re made of spandex… and they fit just right!  i was officially hating this experience altogether!  Humbled… and wearing Ken Wayne’s trunks.

Next, we were off to the ring.

( Part II comes tomorrow, so be looking for it.  Sting had a lot of interaction with what he wanted from me.  Also, take a look at the photo I posted.  Yes, they actually styled my hair like that!  Also, you see Ken’s famous choppers!  Look at those things! I’m surprised he didn’t tear the turnbuckle with those teeth! )
