Devastated

mcnairThat’s the only word I can think of to describe the happenings of the last week or so.  I’m simply devastated.  Look at all the great people we have lost.  All the entertainment we’ll never have again.  I can not remember a single period in my life where so much has happened in so little of time.  From my personal life, my business life, people dying left and right in the real world… what in the heck is going on here?

Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Billy Mays and now Steve McNair.  I apologize for leaving anyone out – but these are the ones that come right to mind.  The greatest entertainer of all time and a music genius.  The infommercial king, whom recently had his own reality television show.  Farrah Fawcett, the lady of many men’s wildest dreams.  Steve McNair – arguably the toughest quarterback to ever play the game of professional football.

One thing that really bothers me about the passing of such great legends is the fact that their personal lives are going to be picked apart and analysed by the media.  They will pick everything apart, from family to private happenings.  Michael Jackson is a prime example of this.  Who’s the mother of the babies?  Who’s getting his money?  Oh wait, let’s all fight over it now seeing how he’s more valuable than ever!  Give me a break.  Or what about Steve “Air” McNair?  I’d hate to be in that guy’s shoes (literally and figuratively!)  He’s getting a rough deal.  He was dealt the ultimate slap in the face by whoever killed him.

I really feel for McNair and his family.  His legacy is tarnished because of the way he passed.  Michael Jackson certainly didn’t lead a life like McNair did.  He wasn’t viewed so well in the public eye for a long time.  From child molesting to hanging his child off of a balcony.  But all that aside, he was a genius when it came to music.  One of a kind, in fact.  No one can take that away.

I want to go a little deeper into Steve McNair’s passing and compare it to the wrestling business (if I can, without burying someone in the process!)  Stay tuned.  This is going to be a tough week.

  1. You can’t forget about Ed McMahon. Nobody can forget his hearty laugh or his signature intro for Johnny Carson. A funny man who will be greatly missed.
