Newsbites

A lot has happened since returning to Memphis.  I don’t have a ton of time to run through all of them, so I’ll just pace myself.  Here are a few newsbites that I wanted to touch on before starting off hot and heavy next week.

Please feel free to post your very own opinions in the comments section.  I love to hear what you have to say.  That makes it all worth-while. (more…)

Leaving Tampa, FL

The last four days have been fantastic.  I can not even begin to tell you how much I’ve learned on this trip.  The knowledge that I was exposed to is amazing.  Great minds.  Great workers.  Great passion.  I was subjected to views, opinions and FACTS that I had not only never heard before – but information that I had never even thought about before.

I’m sitting in Tampa International Airport thinking about everything that went down during the last four days.  Yes, I learned a lot about wrestling.  But I also learned a lot about myself.  I know it sounds cliche’, but it’s true.

I’ve been through many life-experiences on this blog.  I’ve grabbed you all by the hand and walked you through several situations, especially within the last 12 months.  I’ve been through a LOT and have learned more and more about myself.  I know more about myself and my feelings more than ever.  The support that I’ve gotten from my new friends and family… the support I’ve gotten from the unbelievable girlfriend that I now have.  The list goes on and on.  Check out a few past blogs, if you missed them.

What I’ve learned about myself the last few days is a little different.  This is certainly wrestling related.  Performance related, as well. (more…)

Quick Notes

It’s 12:30AM Tampa time and I’m still awake.  I have to be up at 5:30AM.  Boy, oh, boy… it’ll be a rough one.  But I promised updates, so here goes nothing.  It’ll be quick, though!

Went to my first ever Florida Championship Wrestling house show tonight.  I was very impressed with the set-up and the look of all the guys.  Very professional.  The rings are unbelievable – WWE rings.  I finally saw a few guys that I had been wanting to see for some time, now.

Punk from I Love New York reality show was there.  He’s been wrestling for about a year and is a very nice guy.  It was pretty cool meeting him, after watching him on that show for so long.  He was good in the ring and very impressive, body-wise.

Leroy Morgan caught my eye.  He was a very nice guy, as well.  He’s been to this site, after seeing me on ECW in September.  True babyface look and had a good match.  Some guys just have the look – and he certainly looks like a babyface.

I saw Kaval.  I had always been impressed with his TNA work.  It was good to see him live.  He’s smaller than the rest… but he certainly owns the ring.  Very aggressive.  I’m a fan.

A guy I’m very familiar with that I ran into was Byron Wilcott.  I tagged with him in NEW in West Memphis, AR.  Very nice guy and was happy to see him.  He hadn’t seen me since last November and was very shocked at the transformation I’ve made with my weight and look.  Love that guy.

Time to hit the sack.  I’ll be checking back in with you all tomorrow.  My Twitter account has changed up a bit.  You can not view it from the site anymore… you must request to follow me.  Then, you have to pass the test.  You actually have to be granted permission.  :)

Tampa, FL

74 degree weather.  Palm trees.  Ocean as far as you can see.  Busy streets.  And a great hotel room, to boot.  I’m happy I’m here.

It was dark when I arrived, so I didn’t get to see exactly how beautiful the city is.  But tomorrow will be another story.  I’ll be up bright and early to see it all.  I can not wait.  I’m so PUMPED, I have a 5:30AM wake-up call.

I arrived, checked in, unpacked and headed out to get my first look at where I’ll be for the next four days.  My fridge is PACKED.  I have meals and snacks for every single day that I’m here!  Thanks to my Sweet Girl, I shouldn’t have to spend a dime on food.  She packed it all for me.  I’m talking meat, veggie and (good) carb in every meal!  Snacks consist of carrot sticks and fruits.  Grapes, apples and bananas… I love it!  Man, I’m SOOO lucky to have that type of help.

I introduced myself to the fitness center, this evening.  Ran three miles, watched my favorite movie of all time – Christmas Vacation (it’s number one, right now!) and trained my shoulders.  Then, while I was checking out the locker room, I noticed a sauna.  So, I jumped in there and worked my abs.  What a sweat!

Back to the room.  Shower, meal and sat down here for a moment to check in with all of you.  Sleep is coming up, next.  I can’t wait to dive into the king size bed.  I’ll be lying sideways on it before the night is over.  I feel like I can sleep, as of right now – even though I’m very anxious inside.

I noticed a significant spike in traffic yesterday and today, on the site.  Keep checking back.  I’ll be posting every single day that I’m here.  Have anything to say?  Post it in the comments.  I’d love to hear from you.

Live Blogging!

I’m currently sitting inside the offices of Matt Alley, CEO of Matt Alley Design.  We’re currently in the proofing stages of a project that I’m working on.  Basically, it’s a portfolio and a magazine all in one.  He’s done a heck of a job… and while he’s making the changes, I thought I’d send out a message to all of my fans, friends and family.

We’ve figured out a way to compile everything that I’ve done for the last ten years of my entertainment career into one special package.  Past, present and future all into one special magazine that will tell the story of Dustin Starr.  Pretty exciting, huh?

I’m stoked!

Did you know that I appeared in the 2004 DVD movie “Sting: Moment of Truth”?  A funny story behind that one… I appeared in a scene with none other than Ken Wayne.  Steve Borden (Sting) insisted that I be the one beating Ken up in the scene.  I was more than happy to oblige.  (wink, wink!)

Did you know that I just shot commercials for TGI Friday’s, O’Charley’s and Buffalo Wild Wings?  It’s true!  I actually appeared in the Buffalo Wild Wings ad with Riverking hockey player Andrew Lackner.  Very nice guy.  Him chasing the bus was hilarious!

Do you know how many times I have appeared for WWE?  How about TNA?  Did you know that I was even on TNA Xplosion?  Or did you know that I was an extra in TNA’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view?

See?  These are things you should ALL know.

Back to the proofing!

My brush w/ greatness!

One thing I’ve gotten away from on this site is telling stories.  I love to tell my stories.  I’m no Ken Wayne, that’s for sure.  But I really enjoy sharing experiences with you, the wrestling fans.  The focus has certainly shifted from story-telling to what’s been going on in my world and what I’m trying to accomplish.  So, I wanted to share one of my most cherished memories…

I MET EDDIE GUERRERO.

That’s right.  Get jealous.  I, indeed, met the late, great Eddie “Latino Heat” Guerrerro!  Not only did I meet him… but I had a chance to actually work with him.

This experience is special in so many ways.  I was probably about 18 years old.  I received the call while at work.  “Get down here, I have a WWE booking for you TONIGHT on RAW!”  I couldn’t believe my ears!  An actual WWE booking just fell into my lap!  Amazing!  I received permission to get off work early and I headed down to The Pyramid in Memphis, TN.  I knew this was big, but little did I know that I’d be working with two of the largest stars in professional wrestling’s illustrious history! Big Week

I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving.  Mine was slightly different, this year but certainly a change in the right direction.  There’s no doubt that I felt the warmth of the holiday spirit.  That’s what it’s all about, folks.

I was invited into a very special family’s home and had one of the greatest holiday experiences ever.  So loving.  So caring.  So festive.  We ate Thanksgiving dinner, decorated the Christmas tree, built a gingerbread house, painted Christmas decorations, sipped on hot apple cider and sat in front of the fireplace.  Of course, we had to throw in a little football, as the Crimson Tide remained undefeated with their victory over Auburn – but that’s besides the point.  It was a great time and I look forward to many more holidays with my Sweet Girl in the years to come.

It’s a very tough time of year for a diet.  I believe that goes without saying.  This is my “big week” and I’ve been thru it all.  Celebrated my Sweet Girl’s birthday a few weeks back… Then, Thanksgiving dinner… I’m suffering thru it all!  What a time of year to be prepping for a show! (more…)

Debut in Memphis Sport Magazine!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: — dustinstarr @ 4:49 pm

It’s finally here!  After months of waiting and not knowing exactly what to expect, Mike Bullard – publisher of Memphis Sport Magazine – delivered big time!  My very first… and very own column in Memphis Sport Magazine!  I can not even explain the feeling of seeing my own writings published inside of a magazine.  Especially, a magazine that focuses primarily on the happenings in Memphis sports.  I’m very proud and I’d like to thank Mike for the opportunity.

I’ve received quite a bit of feedback from the column, already.  It just hit news stands this week, so not everyone has had the time to read it yet.  But the first reactions were very good.  I expect honest criticism and everything has been very positive, thus far.  For that, I’m very thankful.  Also, along with thankful – I’m also a bit relieved.  Why?  Well, because I’m committed to writing a column in the magazine EVERY issue!

I’m very proud of this accomplishment.  It’s not only a new addition to my portfolio and resume… and not only does it put me that much further outside of the box, so to speak.  But, this new “gig” is an honor and victory for a “blogger” like me.  I started my website in 2000.  It was done through Tripod (I know!) and it was very basic.  A guy named Scott Summerton helped me out with the design.  Then, it just morphed.  I got into the creation aspect of the site and made things happen. Great Training

There are very few great wrestling trainers out there on the independent level.  Sure, WWE producers and trainers are made up of the best of the best.  Past, present and future – they’re loaded with legends to teach the younger talent of the future.  But where I stand, there weren’t many options walking into this business.

A great trainer doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re going to create great wrestlers.  It doesn’t even mean they’ll create GOOD wrestlers.  A guy can be given the best training ever and still not take in the information needed to be good.  Furthermore, they may not even have the TALENT to do it.

I’m currently working out in a facility that is housing the best training I’ve ever received on this level.  Other than the WWE workouts with the likes of Jamie Noble, Fit Finley, Arn Anderson and several others – it is the best training I’ve ever gotten.  I’m not knocking any of the other training I’ve ever received, I’m just merely stating that I’m being trained on a much higher level at this point in my career.  During this point in my career, I need it more than ever.

I’d like to thank everyone involved with helping me get where I need to be.  All the trainees.  All the boys.  The facility owners.  EVERYONE.  Thank you so much.

You have concerns? I DON’T! – PART II

For those of you who were concerned before, take a look at the photos.  I’m trying, as I type this, to get my files converted to post actual video on the site.  Or better yet… maybe I should just make you all wait to see it in person.

Regardless, the images speak for themselves.  “Dustin Starr can’t work the cruiserweight style”… “Dustin Starr can’t do the necessary things to impress”… Whoever has been making statements like that – you better take them back!  (more…)
