Health & Training – PART II

Starr EWE Champ Hogan PoseAfter reviewing exactly what it takes in order to get where you need to be body wise, I thought I’d follow up with a few tips that are very helpful to me. Some of this stuff is very elementary.  But that’s what really works – the basics.  Yeah, you have to have drive, dedication, commitment… But you also have to have the knowledge.  Hopefully.  At least ONE of these tips will help you along the way.

Let’s get started, shall we?

EATING YOUR MEALS: Recently, I’ve been eating five to six meals per day.  This has helped me in my fat loss just as much as the cardio has.  My tips are pretty simple, but they work.

- Get on schedule.  You need to know ahead of time not only what you’re going to eat, but also WHEN you’re going to eat it.  Job gets in the way?  Typical.  That’s the problem with everyone.  Take a short break to eat your meal or drink your shake – just like a smoke break!

- Plan ahead.  I know what I’m going to eat and when I’m going to eat it every single day.  Sure, we mess up and miss meals.  But it is also very simple to carry your food with you and make those meals.  The frequency is very important.

- Another very important tip for those of you who can not eat the five meals per day – or if you struggle with it… Eat smaller portions!  If you plan to eat two grilled chicken breasts and a cup of brown rice – you may need to cut back to two grilled breasts and a HALF a cup of brown rice!  I typically never cut back on the protein.  That’s important for building muscle! Health & Training Tips – PART I

Starr EWE ChampAs promised, I’m here to help you all out with a few health tips.  Mainly, training and nutritional tips that have worked for me.  Now, keep in mind – I am not a certified personal trainer.  Nor am I an expert in the health field in any way.  I’m just a professional wrestler who’s been building and manipulating my body for over twelve years.  Altering my eating, training and regimen altogether to look how I want to look has been a very good learning experience that I’d like to share with all of you.

If you’re a fan or have followed the local wrestling scene at all over the past ten years, you’d know how dramatically I’ve been able to change my appearance body wise.  So, the proof s in the picture.  What I do works for me.

Now, time for a bit of a disclaimer.  Or perhaps a warning label.  This blog is not for everyone and I want to make that loud and clear.

Please STOP reading and exit my site if you: (more…)

Training Tips???

Starr EWE Champ Pose 2I’ve gotten a lot of attention as of late because of the change in my appearance.  Those who witness me in suit and tie always ask about how thin my face looks.  Those who see me in street clothes notice a difference in my waist and arms.  Just a leaner looking person, I assume.  And those who see me in the ring or the pictures on this site, well – you notice the overall difference.  Especially, in my stomach.  I’ve heard all of those things over and over again.

The statements regarding my physical appearance always turn into questions of how I did it.  What did I eat?  What did I take?  What did I do?  How often did I do whatever it is that I have been doing.  Some call it shenanigans… I call it hard work and dedication.

There aren’t any magic potions.  There aren’t any secret exercises or supplements.  Heck, I wish there were.  Fact is, I’ve been busting my hump harder than I ever have.  After my WWE stint in June, I mentioned in a locker room to a few of the boys that “Dustin Starr is about to get lean.  ” I remember very clearly, a few weeks later, one of those guys stated, “Dustin Starr’s the only guy I know that could say he’s’ gonna get leaner and within a few weeks… He looks leaner.”

Thank you.

So, what did I do?  Well, I prepped for a few wrestling bookings like I would’ve prepped for a body building competition.  Now, granted – I didn’t go quite to THOSE extremes.  But I was pretty intense with my regime.  I stuck to my guns and insisted that I was going to see the “better me.”  I’m very confident that I succeeded.

But I still haven’t told you how.  I still haven’t given you the tips your looking for, have I?  Many  of you have contacted me thru text, email, Twitter and even this site.  So, I’m going to try and help some of you.  But heed the warning – what I did may not work for you and I’m not going to give you all my schedule or anything.  However, I will give you some helpful tips and hints that I’ve learned throughout the process.

Check back tomorrow.  Tips will be awaiting you.

More Wrestler Columns?

Starr EWE Champ 5After writing one of the highest viewed blogs in recent weeks, “Wrestler Columns“, I’ve had numerous inquiries about other wrestler columns.  Yeah, I know.  I didn’t cover them all.  But I covered quite a few that seemed to be on the tip of my tongue, at the time.  So, you guys want me to talk about the rest of the columns that pop up out there from time to time?  I’d be more than happy to.  But I’m warning you… you might not like what I have to say!

So, what’s on the blogroll for today?  Or should I say, who’s in the line of fire today?  Well, here’s a select few that I’ll be honing in on:  “Food for Thought” by Jamie Jay, “Keeping it Reel” by Austin Lane and “Coach’s Corner” by Brian Tramel.  I actually received texts from a few of these guys regarding their blogs.  Brian Tramel’s has been placed on here because I have a few things to say about it, as well.

EWE Problems

Starr EWE Champ 2It seems that there’s a pretty big buzz making its way thru the Mid-South wrestling world.  Elite Wrestling Entertainment out of Ripley, TN canceled their regularly scheduled wrestling show resulting in the fact that fans did not show up for the event.  Pretty amazing, huh?  I’ve never seen anything like this happen in Ripley, TN.  It has always been a show / event that’s very well attended.  I never saw this coming, for sure.

I had just hopped on the interstate at approximately 7:30 when I received the text.  Shocked, I called and was given the news just before I reached the “far enough” point in my trip.  Without much questioning, I turned and went home.

What’s going on in that town?

Crowds fluctuate up and down all of the time.  Here recently, it has been far worse.  I’m not sure what the problems are resulting from, but management better figure it out pretty quickly.  If they don’t, they won’t have a show.  The fans will stop coming altogether… Err, at least the ones that HAVE been coming.

This bruises my ego worse than anything.  I’m the EWE Champion.  A show gets canceled because of lack of attendance while I’m on top?  That’s not something you’d like to hear.  But the fact of the matter is this – (more…)

Riverkings Opener Tonight!

Starr EWE Champ PoseMississippi Riverkings hockey kicks back off tonight, October 9th at the DeSoto Civic Center!  The puck drops at 7:05 to kick off the preseason!

Riverkings had an unbelievable season, last year.  This year, they try to pick up where they left off!  Not only do the Riverkings have a strong roster coming back from last year – but I’ll be back as well!  That’s right, Dustin Starr is BACK with the Riverkings!

I know I have announced this already via Twitter several months ago, but I wanted to invite you all out tonight to come see the team and to see myself!  Come say hello and we’ll get a picture to post right here on the website.  Also, I’ll have T-shirts and all kinds of giveaways for hockey fans (and especially Dustin Starr fans!)

I’ve been looking forward to this season ever since last year’s ended.  There’s just something about the fans and how they warmed up to me.  Don’t worry, I’ll be wearing sleeves in tonight’s match-up!

I have a big weekend of sports coming up and I’m so excited about it!  Not only will I be hosting the Riverkings hockey game tonight, but tomorrow I’ll be in Oxford, MS for the Alabama Crimson Tide’s domination of the Ole Miss Rebels!  Can’t wait to see everyone out at The Grove.  But until then, see you all tonight at 7:05 at DeSoto Civic Center and the Ice Palace!

GO RIVERKINGS!

Wrestler “Columns”

Starr EWE ChampAll of a sudden, there have been several wrestler columns popping up all over the internet.  Specifically speaking, on RRONews.com, you can find columns from Greg Anthony, Max Corbin, Downtown Bruno and even Eric Wayne.  Not to mention, you get columns every now and again from Brian Thompson and whoever else decides to send one in.  Sometimes, Brian Tramel at Rasslin Riot will post anything that will stir a little trouble.  Well, I’m here to tell you that not everything that’s posted is worth reading.

Let me start by saying this – my time is more valuable than anything else.  If I’m going to sit and read something, it better be good and it better be interesting.  If nothing else, it needs to be interesting.  I want to come away with knowing something that I didn’t know before.  I want to see a vision that I didn’t see before.  I want someone to enlighten me on an opinion that I may not have thought of before.  And if I DID think of it before, I’ll be glad that they reminded me.  So, some stories are good… some are bad… and some people I just can’t stand to read what they write.

The difference in what I do and what they do is simple:  I do not write a column. (more…)

New Blogs

Filed under: Uncategorized — dustinstarr @ 1:14 am

New blog are popping up everywhere!  Geeze!  I’m not talking about just typical, regular, everyday blogs either.  I’m talking about blogs that are written by independent wrestlers from around the Mid-South.  Eric Wayne is now blogging?  Maxx Corbin is blogging?  Who else?  Golden Boy?  How many others will follow in my footsteps?

You think I haven’t been paying attention?  Maybe I’ve even been reading a few of them?  I guess you’ll just have to wait and see!  Tomorrow, I’ll be posting all of my thoughts on the topic at hand.  So, be sure to check back.  Trust me, you won’t want to miss what I have to say.

See you then!

Check me out!

I haven’t had a lot of time to really catch up on what’s been going on locally.  I’ve been so wrapped up in the WWE bookings and then trying to play catch up on real life happenings… I’ve sorta neglected a few people who have my back.  Any of you who have tried to call, text, e-mail, tweet or just get a hold of me in general – sorry if I haven’t gotten back to you.  Things are getting much more tame, now.  So, give me another try… or I’ll see you at the shows!

While I was away, there were a few good posts on RRONEWS.com that featured yours truly.  I was very surprised and flattered to see a column from Brian Tramel regarding my future in the wrestling business.  Check it out HERE.  It’s entitled “A Starr is Born“.  Imagine waking up early in the  morning on one of the biggest days of your career and logging on to the web.  Then, you go to one of your favorite wrestling websites… only to see that you’re featured on the top of the page with a customized banner AND you have a column that puts you over like a million dollars.  Imagine that for a moment.  This business is all about confidence and people believing in you.  If you don’t think that had a major effect on my attitude walking into the WWE bookings, you’re sadly mistaken.

So, Brian Tramel, thanks for the kind words.  Everyone check that column out, if you haven’t already.

A few days later, BT posted some more information.  Wrestling Observer is quoted in the article, as well.  Pictures from WWE.com are also posted on the story.  Check that one out HERE.  It’s entitled “Dustin Starr on ECW“.  RRO does a great job of letting the fans know when and where the wrestlers are going to be.  This is especially important when we’re supposed to keep our mouthes shut for various reasons.  BT is the voice for the boys, at times.  I appreciate that.

Check those stories out and let me know what you think of them!  I appreciate all of the support, as usual!

wwe meI just replied to several comments that were posted in the comments section of numerous blogs.  Check them out.  Chances are, if you commented within the last few weeks – I have now replied.

Your comments mean so much to me.  I would not write this blog if you guys didn’t respond.  Whether it’s good or bad, I love to see the activity.  Sometimes your comments even give me hints on what to blog about next.  You guys are all very supportive and have been rooting me on for the longest.  Maybe one of these days it’ll pay off.

Maybe it’ll be one day VERY soon.  :)
