EWE Problems

Starr EWE Champ 2It seems that there’s a pretty big buzz making its way thru the Mid-South wrestling world.  Elite Wrestling Entertainment out of Ripley, TN canceled their regularly scheduled wrestling show resulting in the fact that fans did not show up for the event.  Pretty amazing, huh?  I’ve never seen anything like this happen in Ripley, TN.  It has always been a show / event that’s very well attended.  I never saw this coming, for sure.

I had just hopped on the interstate at approximately 7:30 when I received the text.  Shocked, I called and was given the news just before I reached the “far enough” point in my trip.  Without much questioning, I turned and went home.

What’s going on in that town?

Crowds fluctuate up and down all of the time.  Here recently, it has been far worse.  I’m not sure what the problems are resulting from, but management better figure it out pretty quickly.  If they don’t, they won’t have a show.  The fans will stop coming altogether… Err, at least the ones that HAVE been coming.

This bruises my ego worse than anything.  I’m the EWE Champion.  A show gets canceled because of lack of attendance while I’m on top?  That’s not something you’d like to hear.  But the fact of the matter is this – (more…)

Breaking the Mold

Dustin StarrI’ve gotten a lot of verbal reaction regarding the statements I posted last week regarding the stereotypical independent wrestler.  Not so much flack about the egotistical approach of my breaking that stereotype.  But the fact that some guys may think that I’m taking cheap shots at them by calling “everyone else” stereotypical.  This is not necessarily the case.

With that said, I do honestly think that I break the mold of that typical, every day indy wrestler.  However, I’m not in a league of my own by any means.  So, please do not confuse what I’m saying when I tell you that I’m different from the rest.  I like to think that I not only set the bar of performance when I’m in the ring – but I exceed that expected level and earn the fans’ love and respect for doing it that way.

Let’s face it, folks.  The truth is the truth.  The truth is I’m in the ring with the best indy wrestlers in the Mid-South each and every week.  This is pure fact.  Don’t get me wrong, there’s a lot of clutter in this business.  Many guys that do not know how to apply a top wrist lock.  But there are certainly a few that are very capable of wrestling anywhere in the world.  Even on the grandest stage of them all.  Allow me to explain: (more…)

Dustin Starr v Austin Lane – TONIGHT!

Austin LaneTonight, tonight, tonight!  Don’t miss the wrestling action in Wynne, AR at 7PM.  Not only will Derrick King be wrestling KISS FM’s Brandon Baxter but there will also be a first-time-ever on the show.  For the very first time Austin Lane v Dustin Starr will happen!

I remember back ten years ago when I started out in this business, one of the first guys I met in Rampage Championship Wrestling was a short-haired, skinny, shiny-shirt wearing punk named Austin Lane.  He used to like diving off balconies and wore loose-fitting spandex wrestling gear.  If you’re wondering – yes, spandex should be tight, not loose.  Nevertheless, he was certainly a shell of his new self.

Then, on the other side of the spectrum was a kid who graduated from the Power Pro School of Wrestling aka Don Bass’ School of Wrestling.  He was 140 pounds soaked and wet.  Had long, shaggy hair – cuz you know wrestlers all have long hair, right?  He also had an identity crisis… And was green as grass.  Pale, scared and uncertain would be three words that would describe this guy to a “T”.

That guy was me. (more…)

I’m Deaf in my Left Ear – Part I

219Leaving the ring in a total panic and without selling one of the hardest and sickest blows of my career was not what I had expected.  Especially, on a night where I would not only be challenging for the DCW Championship but a night where I would be hosting a Five Starr Showcase segment.  I don’t think surprised is the correct term to use.

Clinching my left ear and pacing around in disbelief, discomfort and confusion, I cursed aloud and entered the locker room with a scream.  From there, I can’t really say exactly what I did because I don’t recall. However, I do know that I kicked, screamed, threw a few objects and headed outside to collect my thoughts.  Yes, I threw a tantrum.  But rightfully so.

I don’t think there’s a single soul that saw what had transpired that didn’t know I was furious about it.  What exactly went wrong?  Simple instructions were given.  Where did it all go wrong?  Was I set up?  Surely not.  Some jokingly ask if a guy owes them money because of how stiff they were in the ring.  Well, I know I didn’t owe this guy money – hell, I JUST MET HIM!

Here’s the scene:  I’m pacing back and forth in one of many rain puddles within the Juke Box Cafe’s parking lot.  I’m digging my fingers as far as possible into my injured ear.  Why?  I guess I’m trying to pry my hearing back into its proper tempo.  Of course, this doesn’t work.  Derrick King’s along side a friend of mine… Laughing.  Luckily, Eric (the friend) doesn’t find it nearly as funny as DK did.  Apparently, he saw it happen.  DK, on the other hand, obviously hadn’t.  He was too consumed with beverage to even think clearly. Why Dyersburg Draws

20Back on December 8th, I wrote a blog entitled “My Weekend of Wrestling“.  Within that blog, I made several statements about what I thought of Dyersburg Championship Wrestling.  I posted a very clear comment… a crystal clear guarantee.

Here’s the quote:  “This town will be drawing within a month.  I guarantee it.”

That was after the first show in December.  Now, here we are at the beginning of February and the show is drawing over two hundred people every week.  So, I am here to tell you why.  I’m here to tell you exactly how that’s possible.  And yes, you can talk all you want about advertising.  Every company hands out fliers.  Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t.

It’s simple, folks.  The reason Dyersburg Wrestling is drawing is because of… ME.

That’s right.  Call it egotistical.  Call me arrogant.  Call me whatever you’d like.  But the simple fact is, those people want to see me get my butt whipped.  They don’t care who it is… all they care about is seeing me in a world of trouble and taking a beating.  They want to see a baby face finally get their hands on me, my manager and my personal assistant.  (more…)

Cheaters, Brian Thompson and Don Bass

1-4-3I know that most of you read RRONews.com from time to time.  There’s a huge crossover when it comes to readers from BT’s site and readers on my site.  They almost go hand-in-hand.  But just in case you missed these stories, I wanted to share them.

RRO Awards is currently underway.  Every year, there seems to be a little bit of cheating going on.  Well, at least there’s always a suspicion that someone’s cheating.  This year, however, BT has addressed the situation like never before.  CLICK HERE to read for yourself.  I won’t name names… but I have spoken to BT about this and you definitely wouldn’t be surprised at who he thinks the cheaters are.  And if you read this site often, you all probably could guess who the suspicious one is.

I’ll say this – if you are so desperate that you have to CHEAT to win a FAN-VOTED award… there’s something terribly wrong with your outlook on achievements.  Sad.  Very sad.

Also on RRO right now, you can read the latest Thompson Perspective.  Click the link and read for yourself, but I’m sure most of you would strongly disagree with everything he has to say.  Honestly, he does all he can to really kiss up to Eric Wayne.  I won’t argue all of his points, I’ll just say that he positions himself so far up the Wayne families’ asses, it makes you wonder if Bobby Eaton would be angry that he’s not still in HIS ass.

I like Brian Thompson, but I remember when he was being slapped around by Brian Christopher a few years back.  I remember him being the gopher for Kelly Warner in LAW.  I know Brian is used to me bagging on him every time I see him… but this column he wrote is totally disgusting.  But I guess it’s not surprising, seeing as he and Eric have a lot in common.  Neither one of them have paid a due in their lives! Eric Wayne Speaks PART I

kidericgregmattThis post is comments directly from Eric Wayne.  They have not been edited and are being displayed in full.  Eric’s message will be displayed in two separate posts due to length.  I will post my feelings on this after everything has been displayed from Eric.  But you can feel free to place your comments below.

Well, here goes nothing. I’m actually surprised that as many negative things that have been said about me and my father and our school and so forth over the last couple weeks that there were no questions posted. Kind of strange that when you finally get the chance to put someone on the spot, nothing happens. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining or disappointed. And as far as all the negativity goes, I’m honestly not surprised. There are always those certain few people out there that feel a need to hate on a person for whatever reason. Whether it’s your own jealousy because you can’t perform at that same level or feeling like you deserve more or WHATEVER the case may be. The bottom line is this, I have worked very hard to get to where I am today. I’m also not stopping because my name is on the tips of so many peoples tongues either. Big deal that you don’t like me, dont watch me. I think Dustin might be one of these people that feels that where I have gotten in this business in just two years is undeserved. It doesn’t mean I didn’t work hard tho, Dustin. I’ve known this guy since before he was “5 Starr” and before the blog and before the blonde highlight in the front of his hair. I doubt he remembers it but I’ve known him since he was 155lbs punk wrestling at Denim n Diamonds that I thought would never do anything. Boy was I wrong. Of course I don’t remember his match or really anything other than who he was. So Dustin has definetly worked just as hard as myself and quite a few others to get to where he is. Does it bother him that some people don’t like him? Not one bit. I can say that even tho Dustin might not always agree with the way I act, but we do have at least one thing in common. We could care less what people think about us. When it comes to any sport(and wrestling is a sport) there always a good guy and a bad guy. It’s obvious that me and Dustin are the bad guys around here. Me for “having things handed to me” and my ego and Dustin for speaking his mind. (more…)

Gross

bloodySimply put.  I guess you could call it a nasty rib on me.  Flash sure did think it was amusing to see me walking around with his blood on him.  I’m sure he wished it was my blood instead of his, but nevertheless.

This photo was taken at Thanksgiving Throwdown, this year.  Genocide is helping me to the locker room after I beat Flash… but I’m wearing Flash’s blood all over my body.  It’s on my face, my stomach, hands, fingers, wrists… I’m sure it’s soaked all into my jeans, as well.

How disgusting is that?  Not one drop of that blood is my own.

Flash seems to bleed like a fountain anytime he’s busted open.  The only other person that I’ve seen bleed (in person) as well as he does is Derrick King.  These guys have so much blood flowing from their heads that when you punch them, the blood flings off their face and into the crowd.  Blood just covers the ring.

I dare someone to say the blood isn’t real.

My Weekend of Wrestling

The last few nights of wrestling action have been pretty fun.  Busy – but fun.

I wanted to give you all a bit of a recap of what’s happened in the world of wrestling within the last few days.  Here goes:

N.E.W West Memphis, AR – Based on the first impression that I had of NEW, I’m sure many people were surprised that I went back.  It wasn’t THAT bad the first time.  I think some people blew it out of proportion.  This time around, it was much better.  I had fun wrestling in my first tag match there.  Byron Wilcott – WWE developmental talent – was my tag team partner.  He had a great understanding of what needed to be done in the ring.  I enjoyed the match very much.  If you have free time on a Friday night and need to scratch that “wrestling itch” – you may want to check this show out.

TLCW Ripley, TN – I always enjoy wrestling in Ripley.  Only Saturday night, the crowd was down a good bit.  Why? (more…)

More of the story…

l_6f5ecf63e7ac6bb99c28ba98e5198092Since my last post about Stan Lee pushing Derrick King out of TLCW, a lot of new stuff has gone down.  Stan did refuse to relinquish the booking duties back to Derrick – but that’s a different story in itself.  They fight like they’re dating.

Nevertheless, as my last Tweet says – Stan is totally, one hundred percent correct in this one.  He’s right.  Derrick’s wrong.  Stan is all for the boys doing double-duty at the shows and wrestling for both companies.  More money because you get two payoffs, right?  Nothing wrong with that.  But, Derrick wouldn’t have anything to do with it.  He didn’t want it that way.

Maybe DK is selfish?  Maybe he’s power hungry?  Whatever the case may be, he’s all of a sudden come around within the last few hours.

I’ve been in contact with every promotion in that area.  Newburn, Dyersburg and Ripley.  It’s all worked out.  I will be wrestling in Ripley, TN and in Dyersburg, TN on Saturday night.  I’ve broken down a wall.  I’m excited to say that I will not only make more money… but I’ll be able to wrestle in front of two hot crowds.

Be at both shows this weekend because there’s no telling what’s going to go down next.
