Big Things Happening

Dustin StarrThe Memphis area is on fire as of late.  What a stretch for the last few months it has been, indeed.  Things continue to get better and better.  Let’s take a look back at what you may (or may not) have missed:

June 1st and 2nd, I fulfilled my bookings with World Wrestling Entertainment.  Along with me, a few other guys from the area were booked.  I made an appearance on ECW by way of wrestling Zach Ryder (Woo, woo, woo!)  Agents were happy, the boys were happy – opportunities to come.

Then, a local independent wrestling organization made the cover of The Memphis Flyer.  Big article was published, as well.  No matter how badly written it was… Or how disgusting the topic was – it is still considered a big deal.  Things were heating up.

Next, Jerry Lawler announces he’s running for mayor.  I will go on record right now to say that I thought this was a major publicity stunt.  But he’s really put in some time and leg-work.  He very well could be totally serious.  Big news across the board for Memphis and the Mid-South.

PWI then releases its Top 500 Wrestlers list and BOOM – Memphis-area guys are on it.  The likes of Jamie Jay, Matt Boyce, Matt Riviera, Jerry Lawler and Flash Flanagan were listed.  Yeah, yeah, yeah – no Dustin Starr.  But what can I say? (more…)

EWE 5/16

The March to Mayhem is underway.  I’ve been talking about it for weeks upon weeks.  Now, it’s right around the corner.  There’s no doubt in my mind that this show will sell out and be tons of fun.  Especially, with the way the show’s being built around such great story telling.

What started out as a tournament with a # 1 contendership at stake – has now become the return of Dustin “Five” Starr and the return of Flash Flanagan.  The crowd has been hot and jam-packed for the last three weeks, all building towards one big night.  With last weekend out of the way, now it’s down to myself and Stan Lee going head to head for the EWE Heavyweight Championship on May 30th.

Take a look at the videos below.  I’m very proud of the work I’ve done since returning to Ripley, TN.  Especially, the work I did in these videos.  The first is the promo, in which Flash interrupted.  Then, the second video is the actual match.  The match that I pegged as being a Match of the Year candidate before it ever even happened.  I’m not only proud of this match – but I hope that many of the guys in the area actually watch it.  They may learn something.

Take a look.

The Death of Dyersburg Wrestling – PART II

Look at the hands!

Flash and I orchestrated the idea of him to come out and do somewhat of a shoot like he had done a few weeks back.  Only this time, Flash was very angry.  And when he entered the ring – he took over.  Once he dropped the first F-bomb, I stepped back into one of the corners and beamed with pride.  Someone is finally giving them what they deserve.  Someone’s finally giving The Walker’s a taste of their own medicine.

Let me be clear – I do not condone the language that Flash used in a family-entertainment-atmosphere.  But let’s be honest here.  There were thirty people in the building.  Many of whom came along with the wrestlers.  I’ve heard these children call me worse name than what Flash was about to say.  So, the playing field is a little different than what has been reported.  I not only do not curse in this blog because of children that could be reading, but I pride myself on being family-oriented.  From hockey, to wrestling, to any other form of entertainment – I want fans of all ages to be able to enjoy my work.  So, Flash might’ve been a bit harsh with the language, but it was well deserved for the setting.

The Death of Dyersburg Wrestling – PART I

flashOn Saturday night, May 2nd, 2009 Dyersburg Championship Wrestling officially cut their own throats.  Thus, leaving the company and their wrestling future to bleed to death.  A family that is so full of greed and spite would put a death grip on one another in order to gain the power and money that they think they deserve.  Whether it’s stealing from a family member or shorting a wrestler on their payoff at the end of the night – The Walker family has made its mark in the Mid-South wrestling scene for having a shady business background.  After bouncing back from committing business-suicide in in the past – they’ve done it again.  Bad business practices are an integral part of The Walker family.  Always has been… always will be.

Please allow me to explain.

Pushing wrestlers that Sandra Walker has a crush on is normal business procedure.  Forcing Addison Walker into the ring despite what any “booker” says, is normal business procedure.  Allen Walker walking out on what’s good for the show… only to return a few weeks later, is normal business procedure.  Another trademark of The Walker’s weekly wrestling tradition is shorting their wrestler’s money at the end of the night.  An occurrence that I can speak very candidly about, after falling victim to it for the last three weeks.  Shame on me?  Indeed.  But trying to make business boom is something that I pride myself on week in and week out.  If I can give the people what they want, I’ll eventually get what I want.  In this case, enough was just enough.

After working in front of one of the best crowds I’ve seen in recent memory, I left Ripley and headed out to Dyersburg.  As fate would deal me, I ran into Allen Walker in the parking lot of the Juke Box Cafe’ (the site of DCW).  I informed Allen that I none too pleased about being shorted money the last three weeks.  This is the week they get caught up. Last Night in Dyersburg, TN

For those of you who aren’t following me on Twitter or haven’t heard the rumblings from last night’s Dyersburg Championship Wrestling show, you missed one of the craziest nights in the history of Dyersburg wrestling.  And trust me when I tell ya, there’s been some crazy stuff in the past.  Everything from the Brian Christopher / Bishop fight a few weeks back… to the cops being called on me a few years ago at a New Blood Wrestling show.  I’ve seen it all and done it all in Dyersburg.  But last night, the bottom fell out of the company – LITERALLY.

Have you ever witnessed a company collapse before your very eyes in a single night?  Have you ever seen a family so greedy that they literally tear each other apart?  Have you ever seen the owner of a company get so greedy with money that they forget who puts the butts in the seats?  I saw it all, last night.

You talk about a family that is a disgrace to not only the wrestling business… but a total disgrace to life itself – you talk about the entire Walker family.  Greed has split that family in so many different ways.  And for what?  To put a few extra bucks in their own pockets?  By lying to each other and lying to the wrestlers who bust their butts week in and week out, they’ve not only run off two of their top wrestlers (me & Flash) but they’ll possibly lose their booker, as well (Derrick King).

On top of the disgusting display of “business”, I also witnessed one of the greatest “shoot interviews” I’ve ever seen.  To top off the interview, I saw Flash Flanagan actually QUIT the company and walk out before his match took place.  Then, as if that weren’t enough, heads rolled again before I left the building.

What’s the REAL story?  What REALLY happened in Dyersburg, last night?  What happened with Flash?  What went down with the Walkers and myself?  Check back tomorrow and you’ll get the full story, 100% shoot.  Do NOT miss this.

Please Elaborate

riverkings-1115After my post on “Horrible, Horrible Opinions“, I can’t help but to have a different outlook on what you readers like.  I don’t want to bash your opinions on other wrestlers or why you like to see them perform… but you blew me away by some of the comments.  It wasn’t just one comment – there were several comments that confused me.

What do you like in a wrestler?  Do you like the fact that he’s in shape?  That he actually LOOKS like a wrestler?  Or does that not matter at all?  Do you like a guy that makes the crowd pop… even if that guy can’t wrestle?  Based on some of the comments, I’m seeing a totally different list of wrestlers being mentioned than I thought I’d see.  Some of the people mentioned in your lists… well, I see the complete opposite in them than you do.

I’m trying to figure out if it’s just because you’re used to seeing those guys wrestle… and they’re the best in that particular company.  Or if you’ve seen several different independent shows and you STILL think those guys are great.  It’s really odd to me when you ask someone who their favorite wrestler is and their response is Kung Fu-Naki instead of Randy Orton.  I’m getting the feeling you’re answering my question similar to that example. Thanksgiving Throwdown

raise-up-kickoutI don’t think I’ve ever been this sore after a wrestling match.  I’m not kidding – I hurt everywhere.  I’m glad that my Twitter account wasn’t working on Saturday night – there’s no telling what my “tweets” would’ve said.

Flash and I had a helluva match to end our ongoing feud.  We went from being TLCW Tag Team Champions to being bitter enemies.  One of us had to go, so we set up the Loser Leaves Town match.  As you all know, I’ve beaten Chris O’Neal and Jon Michael in Lose Leaves Town matches already.  So, I don’t understand why the fans would be singing “hey, hey, goodbye” to me as I entered the ring.

The crowd was electric.  Full house, too.  I got the “goodbye” chants at first… then “get in the ring”… and even a few “chicken -” well, you know.

My chest hurt, my arms hurt, I have my first hamstring injury and I have lashes on my back from Flash whipping me with a leather belt.  What the hell was he thinking?  After about four strikes I was seriously leaving the ring.  I gave them back though… and the rib was on me.  Flash bled all over the place.  I’ll have those photos posted very soon.

Overall, it was a very good night.  Flash is gone.  I’m staying.  And I certainly paid a serious price for that hardcore match.  Hey, at least there wasn’t any barbwire involved.
