What a Week

dustin starr ewe champWhat a week it has been.  Rear-ended, storm hits and knocks out my power on Friday (btw, it’s still out!), a debut in Newburn, a Championship win at EWE and a benefit show that pitted the two top guys in the area against one another.  Let me say again – what a week!

I have a lot to talk about, moving forward.  Today, I’ll just narrow the topic down to the Tank Benefit Show from the weekend.

First off, I thought the turnout was fantastic.  The locker room was over flowing with supportive wrestling brothers and that made it a tough crowd to please.  Heck, they were all smart to the business!  They came with the wrestlers!  But it was fun, nonetheless.  I was very happy with the response during my match.  I could not have asked for more.

I also couldn’t have asked for more when it came to my opponent.  I not only stepped in the ring with a guy that I owe all my wrestling success to, but I stepped in there with one of my best friends in the world… And the best worker I’ve ever stepped in a ring with.  Derrick King is a very special talent.  Other than the boot print on my shoulder, I was EXTREMELY happy (no pun intended) with the match.  We stole the show, no doubt.

I had an even better time speaking with the fans.  I don’t get to do it that often but I enjoyed answering all the ECW and WWE questions.  Thank you all for the support.  I’m happy I could finally give some thanks in-person.  You will see me on WWE programming again. (more…)

Bookings, Benefits & the Auction

turkay_bullySo, what’s next for Dustin Starr?  Where do I go from here?  Simple.  I keep working towards that ultimate goal.  There are plans in place for that, obviously.  But in the mean time, what do I do?  What’s happened since the national television exposure?

Well, a lot has happened!  I’ve been contacted by several local independent bookers to come work for them.  I won’t name them here because nothing’s been finalized… but I’ll definitely be getting around in the near future.  I think my name was even dropped by another company, in the ring, last week.

I’ll continue to work in Ripley, TN.  I love it there.  It’s hard to beat the fans, the consistency and the role that I play on their show.  It’s unbeatable, for sure.  EWE in Ripley, TN will be my number one booking.  I can hone my skills in the ring and I can even train before the building ever opens.  I plan on doing that to its fullest extent.  Who will I work out with?  Only a select few.  I’m not interested in training with very many people.  So, if you get a call from me, consider yourself lucky.

Back to the bookings.  I’ll be in Ripley on Saturday night.  I’ve had conversations with a few other companies about appearing, but it’s not likely to happen.  However, I will be hanging around until Sunday afternoon for the Tank Benefit Show.  If you know me at all, you know that I usually do not do benefits.  But this case is a little different. This Week’s Topics

Be sure to check in throughout the week, as I’ll be covering some very interesting topics.  There’s so much to talk about, with everything that’s happened in the last week or two.  Here’s a little bit of what to expect on the site:

-  Wondering what kind of feedback I’ve been getting from my ECW appearance?  Well, I’ll fill you in on what a few sites are reporting.  I’m very pleased, let’s just say that.

-  Haters?  Are there really haters out there?  Well, after reading Gene Jackson’s blog on all the haters, I will finally give my two cents on the topic.

-  As I stated on Twitter, I finally received a copy of the RRO Yearbook.  I didn’t particularly like everything I read.  I’ll talk a little bit about that.

-  I’ve been receiving quite a few phone calls from local bookers.  Where will Dustin Starr be sh0wing up next?

-  Also, I will be putting the tights I wore in my Smackdown! debut up for auction.  Big deal?  Well, the procedes will go to Tank’s family to help with his burial.  So, be sure to learn how to bid on those tights to help a family in need!

A lot of stuff, huh?  Well, check back later this afternoon.  I’ll be starting my checklist.  Thanks for reading!

Tank Note

Just one last story regarding Tank.  It freaked me out a little bit and sent chills down my spine.

After I heard what had happened, I called a few friends to discuss it.  You know, the regular, “Did you hear!?”  I was surprised to know that I was one of the last ones to find out.  I didn’t get a phone call like I normally do.  But anyway, back to the story.  I was discussing the news with a friend, when they dropped the bombshell on me.

Apparently, Tank’s MySpace page had the updated status to read:  “im up in heaven with my dad. Call my wife’cell for info on my arrange ments at (phone number)

Anyone else get chills?

Memories of Tank

The professional wrestling business has lost another brother at a very young age.  This has nothing to do with drug abuse.  No alcohol abuse.  This passing doesn’t have anything to do with a typical wrestling-related passing. Just a matter of life.  An apparent natural death that no one could have guessed or prevented.

Mid-South wrestling fans, we lost “Tank” Tim Robertson last week due to an apparent heart attack.  A sad, hard-hitting death to this area -no question about it.  Maybe to the average, everyday wrestling fan, they may not know Tank by name.  But to me and the rest of the boys, it’s a very big deal.  Sitting in the locker room with him one week and the next, he’s gone.  You just don’t plan to lose a guy like him. Tank Dies at Age 29

tankWow.  I don’t know what to say.  At the age of 29 years old – former NBW wrestlers, Tank, passes away this afternoon.  I will have more to say later, as I’ve worked with Tank and been in the same locker room with him several times.

This truly is hitting home.  I have goosebumps.  Someone so close to our area in this business passes away?  And at such a young age?

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Are you kidding me?

tank-hand-printI’m tired of talking about the fiasco that’s been going on around the Mid-South wrestling scene.  Let’s talk about something else.

This photo was taken off of Rasslin Riot Online.  I’ve blogged in the past about chops.  Whether it’s Ric Flair, Kid Kash, Chirs Benoit… name all the great “choppers” in the business – I don’t care who you are – chops are absolutely ridiculous.

Look at this dude’s chest.  Could you imagine letting a guy slap your chest until his hand is embedded in your skin?  Better yet, look at that photo… would you ever allow someone to hit you that hard?

I would absolutely kill someone for that.  Literally – KILL.

Why would anyone slap their opponent on the chest anyway?  Seems way to fake and wouldn’t phase your opponent in the heat of battle.  I have always thought it was dumb.  That’s one reason that I have always loved Sting.  It’s very rare you’ll ever see him sell a chop.  In the middle of the heat?  Maybe.  But in any other portion of the match, he’d no-sell it and kill the opponent for it.

This picture is insane.  I hope the guy who did that was murdered for it.
