Corey Maclin dies at age 43.

Local wrestling promoter, political candidate and media personality Corey Maclin, 43, was killed in a car crash in Mississippi late Tuesday night.  The Commercial Appeal reports that Maclin’s car rolled over just south of Sardis on Interstate 55 at approximately 10:30PM.

Corey was a mainstay in Memphis Wrestling for many, many years dating back to the old USWA days.  Maclin started as a ring announcer for the USWA program before becoming a co-host alongside Dave Brown.

Throughout the years, Corey’s role changed significantly in the wrestling business, as he became the booker & promoter for Memphis Wrestling.  Corey even brought Memphis Wrestling to primetime television.

Corey Maclin’s unique style of calling the action made him very fun to watch.  His enthusiasm would draw your attention to the television screen no matter who was in the ring.

Maclin also owned his own marketing firm & worked as a sports anchor for the local ABC affiliate. Maclin was married with six children.

The wrestling world & anyone touched by Corey Maclin are with a very heavy heart.

The stage is set.  Matches are signed.  Now, it’s time for WAR.

Bill DundeeOne of my childhood favorites that I have been very fortunate to work with and get to know during my wrestling career, “SuperStar” Bill Dundee has launched his brand new website.

Click here to check it out.

On the site, you can find out about upcoming events, appearances, Bill’s autobiography & even order old school Bill Dundee products & memorabilia.

The image shown is from one of Bill’s classic T-Shirts you can order on the site.  Dundee will personalize any order with an autograph.

I have a quick Bill Dundee story that I will never, ever forget.  It was Lawler v Dundee at the Mid-South Coliseum.  And to us Memphis Wrestling fans, Lawler v Dundee was like Rock v Austin.  It didn’t get any bigger than that.

I was walking thru the concourse of the Coliseum with my parents (I was maybe 10 years old) when we ran into “The SuperStar” himself.  I was star-struck (pun intended).  I couldn’t speak.  Bill spoke to my parents before turning his attention to me.  I was wearing an old Jerry “The King” Lawler T-Shirt.

Bad timing.

Bill looked right at me and asked, “Boy… where the hell did you get that shirt?”

Years later, I would step in the ring with Bill Dundee.  Stop by his website & order some merch.  Believe me, he’s a legend that’s definitely worth getting the fan’s support.

WWE Hall of Famer “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka, Lead Suspect in Re-Opened Murder Case

As we discussed on the MSL broadcast on 7.20.13, WWE Hall of Famer “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka could be convicted of murder from a case that has been re-opened after 30 years.

Get up to speed on the happenings by reading this story.  It is very informative & quite shocking that new evidence could turn up after so many years.

Snuka is one of the most recognizable characters in the history of the WWF/WWE because of highlights of him leaping from the top of a steel cage during a match at Madison Square Garden.  And we all remember Roddy Piper busting a coconut over Snuka’s head, during a heated segment on Piper’s Pit.

What are your thoughts?  Snuka, a murderer?

All Out War

Memphis Wildfire Wrestling returns to Boston Baptist Church on July 31st for their annual event, All Out War. Belltime is 7PM & the card is loaded.

All Out War will feature a Main Event that has been in the making for several months. Southern Classic trophy winner T@2 will go one on one with USPlabs Elite Athlete & reigning Mr. Tennessee Men’s Physique Dustin “Five” Starr. The lovely Maria will accompany Starr to the ring on his quest for revenge.

The Power Couple of sports entertainment seek revenge on T@2 after he spoiled their debut, costing Starr a match against Chris Lexx. Things certainly heated up last month when Starr returned the favor by using a steel chair as a weapon, as he attacked T@2 during a tag match.  The attack cost T@2 the bout.

All of the action takes place at 4226 Jackson Avenue in Memphis, TN. Directions are simple. Boston Baptist Church is located where I-240 & Austin Peay Highway meet.

Bell time is 7PM & tickets are only $10 at the door. Not only will you be able to enjoy the best wrestling action in Memphis, TN – but you’ll be helping Boston Baptist Church raise money for their fundraiser.

For more information on who will be competing at All Out War, go to the official Facebook page of Memphis Wildfire Wrestling.

Bobby-EatonMemphis Wrestling News reported earlier today that wrestling legend “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton entered surgery this afternoon.  The surgery is apparently to install a pacemaker.  His spirits are said to be very high & the surgery should be routine.

Bobby Eaton has been struggling with his health for quite some time.  In March, Jim Ross mentioned Eaton in his blog as being “gravely ill.”

Bobby Eaton’s wrestling career spans from 1976 until recently, as he has only been semi-retired & competing in the Mid-South area.  Eaton is most recognized by being one-half of The Midnight Express, who were managed by Jim Cornette.  The Midnight Express won numerous Tag Team Championships throughout their tenure as a team.

Just like he did during his professional wrestling career, Bobby Eaton continues to fight.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends & family during this crucial time of uncertainty.
